Outreach at Messiah

Serving our Neighbors with the Christ we Serve

God's promise in Christ is meant for all people to hear. It’s also intended to bless the world through the lives and deeds of those who trust it. Here are some ways in which the promise, heard and believed at Messiah, is touching the lives of other people too.

Community Events-

Shrove Fest
A party for both church and community on the night before Ash Wednesday featuring great food, games, and entertainment.

Rally Fest
An outdoor picnic for church and neighborhood on the second Sunday in September with picnic-style food, activities for children, and a chance for adults to meet and talk.

City Serve
An annual event on the first Saturday in May when Messiah members join with other Lutherans and Christian friends in a day of service at sites across Greater Cleveland. Organized by Building Hope in the City (see below).

Fairview Park Summerfest
Messiah participates every year in this city-organized community celebration. You'll find us in the opening parade and at one of the booths at the Summerfest site.

Community Ministries-

Clothing Drives
Sponsored once or twice a year for the sake of clothing distribution centers in Cleveland.

ESL Tutoring
Messiah is a tutoring site for Building Hope in the City's English as a Second Language program for Arabic-speaking women.

Vacation Bible School
This week-long mid-summer program serves children not only from Messiah but from the surrounding community too.

People Feeding People
This 40-year old ministry gathers special offerings at Messiah on the third Sunday of every month and distributes them to Cleveland hunger centers operated by West Side Ecumenical Ministries.

Fairview Park Hunger Center
Messiah played a key role in launching this vital community service, which has been helping Fairview Park residents for over 25 years.

Connected Agencies-

Building Hope in the City
Specializing in urban mission from a Lutheran perspective, this small independent agency maintains a twin focus on social ministry and evangelistic outreach as complementary aspects of Christ's command to "let your light shine before others…." Messiah members contribute significantly as volunteers to Building Hope ministries.

Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry
Founded in the early 1970's by a cross-section of Lutheran congregations in Greater Cleveland, this ministry enjoys a strong reputation in the wider community for the effectiveness and integrity of its social ministries.

Lutheran Home at Concord Reserve
Messiah has long supported this care center for the elderly, and at least two or three Messiah members live there in any given year. Other members have made important contributions over the years as members of the Lutheran Home Board and its committees

Cleveland Lutheran High School Association
Messiah helped to establish this Association over 50 years ago and continues to be deeply engaged in its work and mission at Lutheran High School West where Messiah students go to school, Messiah members teach and work, and a much larger number of members make enormous contributions as volunteers, leaders, and donors.
